The Coast Guard received the request for a medivac from Long Beach City Lifeguards at 5:50 p.m.

Long Beach City Lifeguards rescued the teen from the water while he was attempting to swim across the Alamitos Channel.  The patient suffered from a suspected spinal injury and was having difficulty breathing.

The Coast Guard rescue helicopter arrived on-scene at 6:30 p.m and transported the patient to Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

Further details of the patient's condition are unknown at this time.
