RESCUERS SEARCH FOR MISSING MAN OFF SANTA BARBARA COAST
 

SUMMERLAND, Calif - The U.S. Coast Guard, Carpinteria Fire Department and Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol began searching for a man this evening near Loon Point in Summerland, California. The man was last seen at approximately 6:50 p.m. swimming to his boat which was drifting 200 yards off Loon Point.

A Coast Guard helicopter and rescue boats from both the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol and Coast Guard are assisting in the search for the missing man.  The missing man's boat washed ashore on Loon Point without the missing man aboard at approximately 7:10 p.m.  The Carpinteria Fire Department is searching the beach and providing shoreline support. The search will continue through the night. 

The National Weather Service has issued a small craft advisory and surf as large as 8 feet through Friday for the southern California coast.
