| MEDIA AVAILABILITY: COAST GUARD REMINDS BOATERS TO BE SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE |
|
WHO: Boating safety experts from the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and local law enforcement. WHAT: Boating safety experts will be on hand to talk about safe boating, accident prevention, and life jacket wear. Availability will be at highly popular boating locations with opportunities to speak to the boating public.
WHERE: Castaic Lake and WHEN: Saturday, May 24, 2008; 9 a.m.-11 a.m. WHY: The Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering free boat safety checks as well as a children's life jacket trade-in at both locations. Memorial day weekend kicks off the 2008 boating season. Statistics show that 90% of people who die in a boating accident were not wearing a life jacket. Boating while intoxicated is also a major contributing factor to boating accidents. As boaters begin heading out this year, the Coast Guard urges them to be safe and responsible.
