| Coast Guard terminates voyage of commercial fishing vessel DE DE MARIE |
| MARINA DEL REY, Calif -Boarding Officers from the Coast Guard Cutter Blackfin, an 87 foot Coastal Patrol Boat homeported in Santa Barbara, detained two individuals suspected of boating under the influence (BUI) from a commercial fishing vessel three miles southwest of Marina del Rey harbor today.
Coast Guard Boarding Officers from the Coast Guard Cutter Blackfin were on a routine boarding of the commercial fishing vessel DE DE MARIE when they determined the two individuals aboard to be impaired. As a result, the vessel's voyage was terminated. The individuals were working as the vessel's operator and crew member. The vessel was towed to Marina del Rey harbor and the individuals were transferred to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Stringent penalties for violating Boating While Intoxicated laws are issued by the Coast Guard which may include fines, suspension or revocation of boat operator privileges and potential jail terms. The Coast Guard works closely with the State of California and several local law enforcement agencies to enforce BUI laws and to remove impaired boat operators from the waters. Boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs is dangerous. The U.S. Coast Guard asks boaters to take responsibility for their own actions by drinking responsibly. |
