Coast Guard rescuers respond to sailboat aground near Los Angeles Harbor

SAN PEDRO, Calif -
This evening rescuers from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles and Baywatch Lifeguards responded to a sailboat that went aground about 5 miles northwest of the entrance to Los Angeles Harbor.

The lone sailor on board was safely removed from the vessel.

Initial efforts by Baywatch to re-float the vessel were unsuccessful and a crack was discovered in the vessel’s hull so further efforts to refloat have been suspended.

The vessel does not appear to pose a risk of pollution.
