GUADALUPE, Calif. – The Coast Guard, along with local agencies, continues the search offshore Santa Barbara County for a 9-year-old boy who reportedly was swept off the beach earlier this afternoon. Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles - Long Beach immediately diverted an HH-65 helicopter from Air Station Los Angeles that was flying in the area. Additionally, a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Morro Bay was dispatched to the scene. The 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Station Morro Bay conducted a shoreline search from Mussel Point to Point Sal, the last known location that was reported to authorities. At 10:00 p.m., an over flight conducted by the Coast Guard helicopter yielded no results.
The Coast Guard is currently issuing an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast alerting boaters in the area to be vigilant and pass any information they may have. The search will continue in the morning with a first light search at 6:30 a.m. with a helicopter from Air Station Los Angeles.
