Coast Guard helicopter crew locates distressed fishing vessel - two rescued

SANTA CATALINA ISLAND, Calif - Tonight the Coast Guard responded to a report of the commercial fishing vessel Volare taking on water with two people on board approximately four miles off of Santa Catalina Island.

A Coast Guard HH65-C rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles was immediately diverted from training operations offshore of Marina del Rey, California to locate the vessel. Rescuers from Baywatch Isthmus and Isthmus Harbor Patrol also responded.

The Coast Guard helicopter crew quickly located the distressed vessel about two miles offshore and was able to direct the two responding boats to the scene.

The vessel is currently under tow to Catalina Harbor. The source of the flooding is unknown.
