| Coast Guard Suspends Search for Survivors of Mid-Air Collision |

LOS ANGELES - The U.S. Coast Guard suspended the search Tuesday afternoon for survivors of a mid-air collision that occured Monday evening five miles southwest of the Long Beach breakwall.
Aircraft and vessels and underwater equipment from the Coast Guard, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department, searched an area of approximately 160 square miles and did not find any signs of survivors.
L.A. County Sherriff's Department will continue with underwater search and recovery efforts.
The initial report of the incident came from a small aircraft in the area that witnessed the collision. The Coast Guard was notified that two small aircraft had collided and crashed into the waters off of Long Beach Harbor. The Coast Guard Command Center in San Pedro immediately dispatched an 87-foot cutter, a 41-foot rescue boat from Station Los Angeles and an HH-65C Dolphin Helicopter from Air Station Los Angeles.
