Channel Islands Coast Guard responds to vessel taking on water

OXNARD, Calif. — Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a radio call shortly after 3:30 p.m. from a 48-foot recreational boat reporting they were taking on water a 1/2 mile south of Point Mugu Friday.

The boat had two passengers on board when they radioed for help over marine radio. The Coast Guard Command Center in San Pedro, Calif. dispatched a 25-foot life boat from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands and an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Los Angeles.

Rescue assets from Baywatch Malibu, Vessel Assist and lifeguards from Leo Carrillo State Beach responded to the vessel taking on water as well.

The 25-foot life boat from Station Channel Islands will remain on scene with the recreational boat and escort it back to the nearest safe haven, Channel Islands Harbor.
