Coast Guard rescues 17 from disabled vessel near Port San Luis

PORT SAN LUIS, Calif. — This afternoon rescuers from Coast Guard Station Morro Bay responded to a report of the 50-foot passenger vessel Patriot being disabled with 17 people on board 4 miles west of Port San Luis. 

The report of the vessel having lost propulsion and steering came into the Command Center at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles – Long Beach in San Pedro, Calif. at 11:52 a.m., Wednesday.

A 47-foot Motor Life Boat  from Station Morro Bay was dispatched to the scene. Once on scene the disabled vessel was taken undertow and safely returned to port.

Marine Inspectors from Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Santa Barbara have been dispatched to investigate further.
