UPDATE - Diver reportedly missing near the Malaga Cove area of Palos Verdes Peninsula

PALOS VERDE, Calif. - This morning Los Angeles County Fire Department - Baywatch Redondo Beach Lifeguards located and recovered the diver, a 52-year-old man, who had been missing since yesterday.  Next of kin notifications have been made by the Palos Verdes Police Department.

A search was initiated yesterday after it had been reported that the diver failed to meet a friend at a scheduled time and location and the diver’s vehicle was found in a parking lot with no dive gear inside.

Rescue helicopters and boats from the Coast Guard, Los Angeles County Fire Department Baywatch - Redondo Beach and the Redondo Beach Harbor Patrol searched an area covering more than 72-square miles of ocean for the man who was believed to have been diving near Malaga Cove earlier in the day.

The 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Halibut joined the search late last night and continued to search throughout the night. At first light this morning a rescue boat from Coast Guard Station – Los Angeles, an HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles and a rescue helicopter from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department resumed search efforts.
