Channel Islands Coast Guard responds to power boat taking on water

OXNARD, Calif.  — The Coast Guard has responded to a distress call received this morning, July 8 from a disabled 32-foot power boat with two people on board one mile southwest of the entrance to Channel Islands Harbor.
      
The distress call came into the Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles - Long Beach Command Center just after 9:00 a.m over VHF radio on channel 16. The vessel reported they were taking on water from an unknown source.
      
A 47-foot motor life boat and a 25-foot Response Boat from Station Channel Islands Harbor were dispatched to the scene. Rescue assets from the Channel Islands Harbor Patrol responded to the vessel taking on water as well. 

 

Once on scene, two Coast Guard members were transferred to the vessel and used a dewatering pump to stop the flooding.

 

The vessel is currently being towed to Channel Islands Harbor by the 47-foot motor life boat.
