| Coast Guard responds to vessel taking on water near Santa Cruz Island |

OXNARD, Calif. — The Coast Guard has responded to a distress call received this morning, July 19 from a disabled 40-foot cabin cruiser anchored in Smugglers Cove, Santa Cruz Island, Calif. with eight people on board. The distress call came into the Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles - Long Beach Command Center just after 8:00 a.m over VHF radio on channel 16. The vessel reported they were taking on water from an unknown source. An HH-65C Dolphin Helicopter from Air Station Los Angeles and a 41-foot motor life boat from Station Channel Islands Harbor were dispatched to the scene. Rescue assets from vessel assist responded to the vessel taking on water as well. A recreational vessel that was nearby took 6 of the 8 passengers onboard. Once on scene, Coast Guard members worked with 2 crew members from the vessel and Vessel Assist to stop the flooding with a dewatering pump. The vessel is currently being towed to Channel Islands Harbor byVessel Assist where a post search and rescue boarding will be conducted. |
