Coast Guard rescuers respond to vessel taking on water near Point Mugu

OXNARD, Calif. — The Coast Guard responded to a distress call this afternoon, August 3, from a pleasure craft taking on water approximately 3 miles west of Point Mugu, Calif. with two people on board.

The call came into the Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles - Long Beach Command Center around 2:00 p.m.

A 47-foot motor life boat from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor and an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles were dispatched to the scene. Assets from the Channel Islands Harbor Patrol and Fire Department also responded.

Once on scene, the vessel's occupants were safely transferred to the Coast Guard motor-life-boat. A Coast Guard rescuer and two fire department rescuers worked together to stabilize the flooding with a dewatering pump. The vessel is being towed to Channel Islands Harbor by Vessel Assist where a post search and rescue boarding will be conducted.
