| Coast Guard responds to vessel taking on water near Catalina |
| CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. — The Coast Guard has responded to a distress call received this morning, August 13, from a 36-foot Grand Banks motor yacht taking on water approximately 7 nautical miles northeast of Catalina Island, Calif. with two people on board.
The distress call came into the Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles - Long Beach Command Center just after 11:40 a.m. over VHF radio on channel 16. Baywatch Isthmus was dispatched and arrived on scene first. Baywatch utilized two dewatering pumps to assist the vessel. The two dewatering pumps would not keep up with the flooding, so the 87-foot patrol boat, Coast Guard Cutter Narwhal arrived on scene to assist with the dewatering. A 41-foot utility boat from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles was also dispatched to the scene and joined by rescue assets from Long Beach Lifeguards and Long Beach Fire Department as well.
