| Father and son missing off Catalina found safe |
|
CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. — The two missing boaters have been found safe offshore Catalina Island today, August 16, shortly before 2 p.m. by the U.S. Coast Guard. Search and Rescue controllers from the Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles - Long Beach Command Center were able to use phone numbers provided by the family to contact the boat that was found offshore Catalina Island, Calif. with both boaters safe. The Coast Guard started the search this morning after receiving the report of a partially submerged skiff at 7:40 a.m. off the Coast of Catalina Island with no one on board. An HH-65 Helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles was launched to the area along with a 41-foot utility boat from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles and a C-130 aircraft from Sacramento, Calif. Assets from Baywatch Avalon, Baywatch Isthmus and Newport Harbor Patrol were also on scene assisting with the search. The Coast Guard would like to thank their partner agencies as well as the community for responding and assisting with the search. |
