| Coast Guard investigating container mishap in the Port of Los Angeles |

SAN PEDRO, Calif. — The Coast Guard is investigating the circumstances surrounding two freight containers which fell over the side of the motor vessel Xin Fei Zhou in the Port of Los Angeles this evening. There were no injuries to personnel and no environmental impact as a result of the incident. According to reports, while conducting cargo operations on board the motor vessel Xin Fei Zhou at Berth 100 in the Port of Los Angeles, an error occurred in the container offloading process. Two containers were dislodged from the motor vessel Xin Fei Zhou, falling from the vessel and landing on the tank barge Webb Moffett located alongside. The tank barge Webb Moffett was delivering fuel oil to the motor vessel Xin Fei Zhou at the time the containers fell. Fueling operations were immediately halted. No oil was spilled as a result of the impact of the containers or the termination of the transfer operation. Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach marine inspections and marine investigations personnel are currently on scene. Structural integrity and stability of both vessels has not been compromised. The two containers will remain on board the tank barge until they can be safely removed. Operational controls have been enacted by the Coast Guard requiring permanent repairs to both vessels.
