Coast Guard responds to vessel aground on Santa Cruz Island

SANTA CRUZ ISLAND, Calif. — The Coast Guard responded early Tuesday to a report that the 30-foot squid-fishing vessel Lady Frances had run aground on the east coast of Santa Cruz Island in the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary.

Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Santa Barbara investigators and a Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles MH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew were dispatched to the scene.

No signs of pollution have been found and no injuries have been reported.

The Coast Guard is working with the National Park Service, Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, and commercial salvage services to refloat the vessel.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
