Update 1:  Coast Guard responds to vessel aground on Santa Cruz Island

SANTA CRUZ ISLAND, Calif. — Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Santa Barbara and Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor oversaw the safe removal of the 30-foot squid-fishing vessel Lady Frances Tuesday evening, which was aground on the east coast of Santa Cruz Island in the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary.

A commercial marine assistance provider successfully refloated the Lady Frances at approximately 7 p.m. and now has the vessel in tow, bound for Ventura Harbor.

No pollution was observed by Coast Guard personnel on scene.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
