Update 2: Coast Guard responds to vessel aground on Santa Cruz Island

SANTA CRUZ ISLAND, Calif. — Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Santa Barbara oversaw the safe cross-channel transit of the 30-foot squid-fishing vessel Lady Frances, which was aground on the east end of Santa Cruz Island in the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary on Tuesday.

The Lady Frances was successfully towed from Santa Cruz Island to Ventura Harbor by a commercial marine assistance provider, arriving in Ventura at approximately 6 a.m.

Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Mark Jimenez, who was embarked on board the towing vessel for the duration of the voyage, confirmed that no pollution entered the water during the transit.

The Lady Frances has been removed from the water in Ventura Harbor.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
