Commercial fishing vessel aground on Oxnard’s Hollywood Beach
CHANNEL ISLANDS, Calif. - The Coast Guard has received a report of the grounding of a 42-foot commercial fishing vessel on Oxnard’s Hollywood Beach early Sunday morning, October 18, 2009, with two people aboard.

According to reports received at the command center for Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles – Long Beach, the commercial fishing vessel Donz Rig struck the breakwall at the entrance to Channel Islands Harbor at around 1:00 a.m. during an inbound transit.   The vessel sustained significant damage, and immediately began taking on water. The vessel was maneuvered about 100 yards north of the harbor entrance and intentionally run aground on to the beach to prevent sinking in the harbor.

Channel Islands Harbor Patrol was first to arrive on scene and reported that both of the vessel's occupants were safe and uninjured. The Coast Guard is working with National Response Corporation and Vessel Assist to determine vessel’s salvage.
