Coast Guard conducts two late night medevacs, one by air, one by sea

LOS ANGELES - The Coast Guard conducted two late night medevacs Tuesday, one of a man offshore of Point Mugu, Calif, the other of a man off San Nicolas Island, Calif.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., a 53-year-old man, alone, aboard a skiff, six nautical miles southwest of Pt. Mugu, Calif., radioed for help on VHF channel 16.  The man, in close proximity to the Coast Guard Cutter Halibut, an 87-foot patrol boat, reported that he had crushed and lacerated two of his fingers aboard his fishing vessel.

He was in transit on his skiff to Channel Islands Harbor and could not make it further on his own. The Halibut took the man aboard and transported him to Channel Islands Harbor where he was met by local EMS and taken to St John's Pleasant Valley Hospital.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., the Naval Clinic on San Nicolas Island contacted the Coast Guard requesting a medevac stating that a 25-year-old man was in need of medical help showing symptoms of pneumonia and a fever.

A Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles MH-65C Dolphin helicopter launched and conducted the medevac.

The man was transferred in stable condition to Torrance Airport where local EMS transported him to Torrance Memorial Hospital in Torrance, Calif.
