Coast Guard responds to disabled vessel south of Catalina Island

CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. — The Coast Guard responded to a distress call Tuesday night from the 57-foot vessel Verna Josephine, which was disabled and adrift six miles southeast of Catalina Island, Calif.

Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received the call at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and relayed the information to Coast Guard Cutter Edisto, homeported in San Diego, which was on patrol in the area.

The Edisto arrived on scene, stayed overnight with the Verna Josephine, and is currently towing the vessel into the Port of Los Angeles, where Coast Guard Station Los Angeles-Long Beach will conduct a post-search and rescue boarding.
