Coast Guard responds to fishing vessel taking on water off Morro Bay

MORRO BAY, Calif. — The Coast Guard responded Wednesday to a report of a 38-foot fishing vessel taking on water with one person on board approximately 30 miles southwest of Morro Bay, Calif.

A 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Morro Bay and an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles were dispatched to the scene.

The fishing vessel sank shortly before the Coast Guard arrived on scene. The one person on board was safely recovered with no injuries by the fishing vessel Alison N, which was also operating in the area.

Debris from the sunken vessel is being recovered by the 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew.

The cause of the vessel sinking is not known at this time.
