Coast Guard searches for overdue Catalina Island boater

CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. – The Coast Guard is searching for an overdue boater aboard the 36-foot sailing vessel Cake. 

Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles – Long Beach received notification from a family member of Ken Bliss about 9 a.m. Friday, stating that he had departed Catalina Island Thursday and had not returned as scheduled to Ventura Harbor.

A Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento C-130 rescue aircraft, a Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, the Coast Guard Cutter Narwhal, Ventura and Catalina Harbor Patrols are searching for Bliss. 

Ventura and Catalina Harbor Patrols have not been specifically tasked with searches.

If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of Bliss or of his sailboat, they are advised to contact 911, or a Coast Guard station immediately.
