Downed Aircraft Off Dana Point, Update #1

Dana Point - At 2:03 pm the Coast Guard received a call from the vessel SPIRIT OF DANA POINT reporting a aircraft that crashed into the ocean approximately 3 nautical miles west of Dana Point

The aircraft was reported to be a Cessna 210 with four men onboard.  The aircraft was reported to be enroute from Brown Airfield in San Diego to John Wayne Airport in Orange County.  A Coast Guard Auxiliary boat, a helicopter from Air Station Los Angeles and a Coast Guard 25' Response Boat responded to the scene.  Orange County Sheriff's Dana Point Harbor Patrol also responded to the scene.  Sheriff's divers searched the area but no victims were found; the four men are presumed to be dead.  The Coast Guard suspended the search efforts at 3:54 pm.

The cause of the accident is not known at this time.
