Coast Guard Stresses Safety During Buccaneer Days

 Boating Safety

SAN PEDRO, Calif. - The Coast Guard would like to invite the media to conduct interviews with enforcement personnel regarding safety concerns leading up to this weekend's Buccaneer Days on Catalina Island, Calif.

Media members may conduct the interviews at the Coast Guard base on Terminal Island between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m, Friday.  The base address is 1001 South Seaside Ave in San Pedro, Calif.

The Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies will be patrolling the waters to ensure the public's safety throughout the weekend.

Common safety concerns are people Boating Under the Influence, not wearing lifejackets, travelling at night without navigation lights, and overcrowding of vessels.

In previous years, docks in Two Harbors were filled with dingy's from larger boats anchored offshore.  These vessel's pose their own safety concerns as people usually forget to bring lifejackets and are routinely overcrowded, making them less stable due to their small size.
